چکیده

In this paper a novel type of gain-shape vector quantization (GSVQ) is presented, denoted as Logarithmic Cubic Vector Quantization (LCVQ). LCVQ is based on a decomposition of the vector to be quantized into a gain factor and a shape vector which is a normalized version of the input vector. Both components are quantized independently and transmitted to the decoder. Compared to other GSVQ approaches, in LCVQ the input vectors are normalized such that all shape vectors are located on the surface of the unit hypercube. As a conclusion, the shape vector quantizer can be realized based on uniform scalar quantizers. This yields low computational complexity as well as high memory efficiency even in case of very high vector dimensions. In order to demonstrate the coding efficiency of the proposed quantization scheme, LCVQ is compared to existing quantization schemes, in particular the recently proposed Logarithmic Spherical Vector Quantization (LSVQ) [1].

Joint Signal Processing for Spherical Logarithmic Quantization and DPCM

Spherical logarithmic quantization (SLQ) is a vector quantization method for efficient digitizing analog signals at a high dynamic range as well as a high Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) while preserving the original waveform as close as possible. Short vectors of samples are represented in sphere coordinates while correlations within the source signal are exploited by means of differential pulseco...

Image Compression Using Learned Vector Quantization

This paper presents a study and implementation of still image compression using learned vector quantization. Grey scale, still images are compressed by 16:1 and transmitted at 0.5 bits per pixel, while maintaining a peak signal-to-noise ratio of 30 dB. The vector quantization is learned using Kohonen’s self organizing feature map (SOFM). While not only being representative of the training set, ...

A new perceptually weighted distance measure for vector quantization of the STFT amplitudes in the speech application

In this paper, a new perceptually weighted Euclidean distance function is proposed for the VQ of the speech signal. It employs a logarithmic preprocessing and utilizes the listening characteristics of the ear for the definition of the perceptually weighted Euclidean distance function. Simulation results show that the proposed VQ process has less spectral distortion (SD) than its conventional Eu...

3D medical image coding using separable 3D wavelet decomposition and lattice vector quantization

An original 3D subband coding scheme is proposed. A separable 3D wavelet, taking full advantage of the 3D structures correlation, decomposes the original volume into subvolumes which can be separately quantized by an uniform scalar quantizer or by a 3D lattice vector quantizer. Concentric hyper-pyramids lying on the cubic lattice are used for searching codewords. A distortion minimization algor...

Logarithmic perturbation theory for radial Klein-Gordon equation with screened Coulomb potentials via h̄ expansions

The explicit semiclassical treatment of logarithmic perturbation theory for the bound-state problem within the framework of the radial Klein-Gordon equation with attractive real-analytic screened Coulomb potentials, contained time-component of a Lorentz four-vector and a Lorentz-scalar term, is developed. Based upon h̄-expansions and suitable quantization conditions a new procedure for deriving ...
